Adoptable Pet Of The Month – Ike

Meet Ike!

Update May 16, 2015:  Ike found his forever home today!!

This handsome fellow is Ike. Ike was picked up as a stray all the way back on December 17th, 2014. When he first came in he was very calm and quiet, but as the months have gone by Ike has become frustrated by being locked in a kennel. He is people-friendly but very active and needs work on his manners, so a home that will take him running or hiking regularly is a must. He is very strong on the leash around the shelter, but volunteers say that once he is away from the shelter the leash is often slack and he listens well.

While we have been able to introduce him to other dogs successfully when he was very tired, he generally gets extremely worked up around them so a single-pet home would be better for him. Ike appears to be a Lab mix and we estimate that he is around 2-3 years old and about 60-70 lbs.

For additional information about Ike, please contact Friends of Animal Care & Control.

Meet Gemma!

Update March 28, 2015:  Gemma found her forever home today!!

Gemma is our third longest resident, this gorgeous girl has been with us since 12/03/14!  Gemma is a super sweet little girl who has loved everyone she meets. She is very energetic and needs some work on her manners, but she sure has a lot of love to give. As you can see from her photos, Gemma LOVES her stuffed animals.  She keeps them close, parades around with them, and will present visitors with one when they come up to her cage. She has tested well with the other dogs she has been around at the shelter, but if you have another dog, please bring him/her to meet and greet before adopting!

For additional information about Gemma, please contact Friends of Animal Care & Control.

Meet Marnie!

Marnie is our longest resident now, arriving at the shelter as a stray on October 21, 2014.  She is a young adult that loves everyone and gets along well with other dogs.  We are not sure what she is mixed with…any ideas (she has the most beautiful brindle markings)?  What ever she is, she 100% lovable, and is a favorite at the shelter.  Volunteers always ask why she is still there!  Marnie is quiet in her kennel, always waiting patiently to be let out for a run on the trails or a good romp with stuffed toys in the yard.

For additional information about Marnie, please contact Friends of Animal Care & Control.

We were so impressed with our community’s response to the shelter dog shoebox program this holiday season!  A huge THANK YOU goes out to everyone who supported the cause!!

Given the overwhelming response, we think that we can keep the shoebox program going year-round.

Our goal is to collect donations throughout the year, in order for every dog receive a gift box upon entering the shelter.   Imagine how much of a difference it could make for a dog entering the shelter to associate positive things (such as toys and treats) with this experience. Adoptable Pet Of The Month – Blake

Meet Blake!

Update February 2, 2015:  Blake found his forever home today!!

Blake is now our longest resident at the shelter. He was found as a stray with two puppies back in August and all three were severely underweight, but with several small meals a day, they all recovered quickly. The two dogs Blake came in with were adopted several months ago and Blake still waits for his forever home.

Blake is very friendly and doesn’t know what the word “stranger” means. He is very food motivated, so would be a breeze to train. He is high energy (but who wouldn’t be cooped up in a cage for almost 5 months??) and will need and active home and one that can give him time to adjust to life outside of the shelter. Blake LOVES to go on runs and is happiest when he is running along the trails near the shelter with volunteers. He would make an awesome running or hiking partner!

Blake recently had a very painful abcess in his leg. He was an absolute superstar while being examined at Main Street Veterinary Clinic all of the staff loved him. He is all healed up now and doing great!

We are guesstimating Blake to be ~2 years old. We do know that he should not go to a home with cats or small animals. He tested well while on leash with another unaltered male, but if you are interested in adopting Blake and have another dog, please bring him/her for a meet and greet!

For additional information about Blake, please contact Friends of Animal Care & Control.

Update October 31, 2014:  BatGirl found her forever home today!!

It is hard to find something more adorable than this pocket Pittie! BatGirl is ~2 years old and weighs in around 30lbs. She is cute as a button with an even cuter personality. And get a load of those ears! Although she can be picky about which dogs she chooses to be friends with, Batgirl loves everyone she meets and LOVES her squeaky toys just a little more (so much so that she will bury them so she knows where they are for later). BatGirl has been spayed and is up to date on all vaccinations. Her time is running out and she needs to find her forever home soon.

For additional information about BatGirl, please contact Friends of Animal Care & Control.
